Five Simple Self-Care Tips for the Month of Love - Valentine's Day!

"Self-care means giving the Best of You,

Instead of what's left of you."

~Katie Reed

Did you know that February is National "Self-Care Check Month?"  Self-care is an integral part of life. What is self-care" and what can YOU do this month to start practicing self-care?

Self-care is the art of consciously incorporating habits to make yourself a priority.   You can start these new habits on Valentine's Day, which celebrates love.  Valentine's Day can be a way to love and care for yourself and also be a way to validate and practice self-love.

Being your own Valentine is a surefire way to start a self-care practice. Valentine's Day can remind you to love and honor YOU.  Self-care is a way to celebrate yourself for all YOU do. Having great self-care habits and carving out time for yourself is essential.

After all, you cannot take care of others if you do not first take good care of yourself.

Below are five simple self-care tips. These are not complex or time-consuming but relatively easy and fun habits you can start today.  These habits can become lifelong tools for self-care and self-love.

1. Self-Compassion!  The more you practice being kind and compassionate with yourself, the more you'll increase the habit of self-compassion. If you are in the service industry, this can be a challenge, so give yourself a break. You are doing the best you can, and that is ok. Remember, self-compassion is not a luxury. It's a necessity, and you deserve it.

2. Recognize Your Value!  Remind yourself you are making a difference despite the many challenges presented at any moment.  Positive affirmations are a great way to remind yourself how important you are.  They can be as simple as, 'Wow, great job on that project!  It is unfinished, but I did what I could today!

Recognizing your value is not just a feel-good exercise but a power move elevating your confidence and resilience. It's a reminder that you are important and your contributions matter.

3. Take a Walk!  When did you last take a deep breath outside?  Go for a walk! Find a nature trail or walk along the beach or your neighborhood – wherever you feel most at peace. Listen to the sounds around you.  And Breathe!

4. Gratitude!  Focus on the positive aspects of life every day and look for all the good stuff for which you are very grateful. Write down or say three things every day you are thankful for.

5.  Make Self-Care an Appointment!  Put a reminder in your appointment book and include YOU in your schedule. Self-care may be challenging at first, so make it an appointment. Stick to it and make it a habit. It may take time, but eventually, that appointment will become a fun habit.

The world is a better place because you're in it. Please show up for yourself every Day because you are worth the Love and care you give yourself. Have a delightful Valentine's Day with self-care and self-love!
