New Moon and Solar Eclipse in Leo – August 21, 2017
As many of you already know, we are having a Solar Eclipse TODAY which will be visible from 9 am until 1 pm from coast to coast in the USA…. something that doesn’t happen very often! In fact, the last one was in 1918 – 99 years ago. While there is a lot of excitement about actually “seeing the eclipse” my teaching today is about the internal processes that eclipse cycles activate and how to work within them.
Solar eclipse cycles can bring the promise of change, and the growth that real change activates. This kind of change can be both positive and negative, and it is usually an unexpected type of change – which is why there can be an inordinate amount of psychological fear connected with an eclipse cycle.
In Western Astrology, the eclipse will be in 28 degrees of Leo, and in Vedic Astrology, the eclipse is at 4 degrees of Leo and located in the Nakshastra – Magha. Which literally means “the mighty one” or “the great.” Magha is ruled by the shadowy spiritual planet Ketu which can bring in a tremendous amount of spiritual and mystical leadership.
Having 4 planets in Magha myself, this Eclipse will be affecting me quite strongly. As many of you know I have a passion for music. I am now mixing my own original music album for release hopefully within a few months. Having completed 7 albums (with other amazing musicians) in the past 3 years as a recording engineer, I am super excited to work on my own album now. Something that I have been working on for the past 9 years.
Like me, you may be feeling its energetic turbulence and excitement, but it does not necessarily bring its impact on the day of the Eclipse, but sometimes on either side of it. I felt its impact last Friday and Saturday…. for sure!!
How it affects you depends on the chart and your own ability to handle the energy. It will be important for you to check your own chart and see if you have planets at these degrees.
On the positive side, eclipse cycles can break old patterns and allow us to let go of issues we are stuck within. They can truly help our deeper perceptions and our incorrect thinking on how to positively change our old and negative patterns. However even when eclipse cycles are positive, you can and probably will feel the release of these energies which may appear shadowy, and difficult at first. Truly seeing the results of this transit will be more apparent in September.
When the Eclipse cycles are in Leo it is all about creativity, love, joy, giving and receiving the energy that we feel from our Hearts. It is about connecting with your own heart’s deepest desire and longings. If we are not doing that, it will be time to look deeply into your own heart to see what habits you have developed over time that keep you from having the love and joy that you deserve.
We make choices for our happiness by engaging with others and bringing them our creative and loving selves. This eclipse can express itself through the positive side of leadership, joy, and love. Its brightness will bring power, prosperity, and great joy to the world.
The shadow side of this Leo eclipse could be the realization of having over given to others and the anger that can result from this love not being reciprocated. Be aware of where you may have OVER GIVEN. Take responsibility for that! If you are overgiving, ask yourself why, and pull back if need be.
Since most growth in life is indicated by some type of obstacle, these New Moon Eclipse cycles suggest that you look at where you can express yourself through the positive side of love, and where you may be overgiving.
Here are some suggestions for this New Moon Eclipse Cycle.
- Be honest about what you LOVE. Take a Risk on WHAT YOU LOVE, regardless of the outcome.
- If you feel that you are overgiving, pull back a little. That is loving yourself.
- Do something today that you enjoy. Please….. NO questions as to why!
- If you want to play…….. Play. BE creative!
- Rest. Rejuvenate. Heal…. but most of all….. allow yourself to play, express joy and love.
