The Moon & Pluto

Cycles of Beginning and Completion —

Transformation & Change

May 10, 2005

The New and Full Moon

May starts with a New Moon! This past Sunday, May 8th, was a New Moon in Taurus. New Moons are beginning cycles. It is time to take advantage of this cycle and begin something! Taurus is a fixed earth sign linked strongly to the planet Venus. Venus is associated with love and relationships. I suggest starting with something solid, practical, and authentic in your relationship with yourself and others! Some examples might include: talking with your loved ones about your values, negotiating real down-to-earth things, taking care of yourself by eating well, going for a long walk, or treating yourself to a nurturing massage!

Pluto Retrograde

The Full Moon will take place on Monday, May 23rd, 2005. Full Moon Cycles represent the completion of the cycle started on the New Moon. This will be time to evaluate what happened during the cycle and how well your New Moon plans followed through.

Hades from Greek Mythology

Pluto is the archetype of transformation and profound change. It is the furthest planet in our solar system and is named after the god of the underworld, Hades, in Greek mythology. He ruled a place of fear and darkness, the underworld.

Pluto took Persephone, the daughter of Demeter, into the underworld. With Persephone gone, Demeter would not allow anything to grow on the earth, and it became barren until her daughter's safe return.

Hades did not want to return Demeter, so a compromise was reached. Persephone would spend half of the year in the underworld with Hades and half of the year on earth. The result? The balance of our seasons, summer and winter.

Quite ironically, when Pluto was discovered, the atom bomb was being developed. The bomb ultimately came to symbolize destruction and annihilation. The discovery of Pluto also corresponded with the rise of depth psychology.

Thus, Pluto's symbolism is about change and transformation through the painful process of finding the most profound truth and meaning. As you can see, both destruction and gain are genuinely available. Psychology has helped many people, and the bomb keeps us aware of the potential destruction that is part of our human condition.

With any Pluto transits, what has typically been suggested is something that must be eradicated from your life, essentially for the more profound change to occur. When Pluto makes a transit to an Angle, the Sun, or Moon, something will have to end for a new beginning to happen. For things to change, there must be endings.

Pluto will retrograde in the sign of Sagittarius until September 2nd, 2005. With Pluto moving through an area of your horoscope, it is time for you to re-evaluate and rethink how to move ahead with the transformation and change. The change is particular to the area of your chart that Pluto is moving through (you will need to have an astrologer tell you where Pluto is progressing to help better you understand that cycle. Astrology is an in-depth and creative art. Please make sure you choose an astrologer who understands the creative process.)

For example, if you have Pluto transiting your 4th house, this cycle suggests a time to rethink and look at your personal feelings, your home and about, who you are and where you "live." This can be understood on a deeply internal level or manifest on a superficial level, such as moving to a new location, buying a new house, or remodeling. Our homes symbolically reflect how "we feel" about ourselves. If your home is cluttered and chaotic, or you are not living in a place that truly reflects who you are, you may need a change. But first, if you live in a home like this, you may feel unable to decide what to do until you clear out the debris. You must change something!!

There is much potential to make incredible gains through this transit, but it is typically experienced as complex, especially if other difficult transits are happening in your chart. Please email me further questions about Pluto and its retrograde transit in Sagittarius.

Thank you for all your support and love!

Warmly,

Amber

"Wisdom Teaching Quote "

All changes, even the most longed for,

have their melancholy;

for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves;

we must die to one life before we can enter another.
