Language has created

the word loneliness

of being alone,

and the word solitude

to express the glory

Life holds many obstacles. The two largest obstacles that seem to develop as a woman becomes older is the fear of losing her beauty and the fear of being alone. Lately, I have experienced these issues with many of my older female clients.

Quite frankly, it is disheartening for me to hear that a woman is afraid of losing her beauty.  But it is really hard to hear that she cannot be alone.  But the hardest thing to hear from her is that because of her possible loss of beauty, and her fear of being alone she stays in a relationship that no longer serves her solely because of the fear of being alone. She reiterates that it is because she is losing her beauty and “what man would really want to be with her now?”  Truly, I want to scream.

Honestly, I hear her plea. But actually what I know to be true is that deep down inside of her, what is really important to address and what is really her greatest and deepest fear is being alone.

As infants we learn how to get our needs met in order to survive.   Later as children we begin to formulate ideas, concepts and feelings about how that will happen in other ways.  As adolescents we try to discern how we will get our deeper needs met as we pull away from our parents.

makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires will come to you
If your heart is in your dreams,
no request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star as dreamers do

What is a dream?  The dictionary describes it as: A wild fancy or hope, a condition or achievement that is longed for, an aspiration, something that is exceptionally gratifying, excellent, or beautiful.

More importantly, what are your dreams?  Do you know? The above description suggests that a dream is often something out of reach.

It is extraordinary to see the level of expertise, ability, and talent in so many of my female clients and friends.  I am “in awe” of the way so women have developed the capacity to accomplish wonderful things in their professional lives. But, is there a problem emerging out of this?  What happens when a woman becomes “too” capable?  What is the risk she takes with being able to “do it all?”

Imagine a woman...... A woman who believes her body is enough, just as it is. Who celebrates her body and its rhythms and cycles as an exquisite resource. A woman who celebrates the accumulation of her years and her wisdom. Who refuses to use precious energy disguising the changes in her body and life. ~

Recently I have noticed a tremendous surge in the media on cosmetic surgery, extreme physical makeovers, teeth whitening, botox, and weight loss programs. This type of advertisement is specifically designed to help you believe “if you are physically transformed and beautiful, you will be happier and more desirable.”
